By My Side_Studio II Proposal

A game the player never win. Recently, many news reported on youngsters committed suicide. I was shocked by its high frequency. In fact, the problem of children and adolescent suicide is a worldwide topic under modernization. Here, I would not blame anybody because everyone will be died, sooner or later. I just want to emphasis the importance of companion and relationship. Maybe to listen someone talking is nothing to you, but for the speaker is everything at that moment. So, that is the reason why I want to make a game called by my side.

The game is about finding the water to rescue the seed in the dark. Player should follow the light to find the seed first, and than the sound of river running will be shown up. Player can choose pick up the seed or not.

Fight against Yourself-相由心生

We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think about.–Buddha ( 境由心轉,相由心生。)

Video likes a mirror, but not only a mirror. Like the meaning of multimedia artist Nam June Paik’s video work with the Buddha watching himself. I think video is a bridge connected with present and past. We are taking now, but for showing past. Even in real time, the taker and the shower is different. The Time machine project from Osamu Sahara is a good example for showing time and memory delay.

For me, I want to use the video as a magic mirror with reflection thoughts. Not to reflect the real images but for the feelings. The project is called Fight against Yourself, which means the interaction asking the visitor to say something to the camera.When you watching the camera, your image is showing on the screen. Images actually will be change with your sound. Smaller the voice you are, more complicated and frighten your portrait will be. If you shout loudly, you can see your portrait more clear and simple.

The software I will use MAX/MASP ( Jitter / Martix, etc.)

從聲音裡回到二戰時

今日是天堂無門(Son of Saul)在香港百老匯的首映,衝著他一路的好評去看了。

坐在安靜的戲院座位上,屏幕依舊是處於等待中的黑,耳際卻出現了鳥鳴風聲,樹葉沙沙聲,不多時畫面出現模糊虛焦的場面,綠色的叢林裡有人在草地上剷土,一下一下,鐵鏟插進泥土。突然,一陣哨聲驚動了,有人慢慢走進,越來越近,一直走到鏡頭變得清晰的位置。從這裡,影片的主角Saul出現,故事開始展開。

天堂無門沒有採用現在普遍的16:9的大銀屏,而是特意用4:3的尺寸來營造一種壓抑感,鏡頭角度多從主角身後肩膀的位置拍攝,持續的特寫描繪了“特遣隊員”(囚犯)日復一日在集中營裡處理屍體、洗刷血跡、搜集亡者身後物的麻木以及只顧自己活著就好。Saul一開始的表情都是無所謂的,直到他又一次在擦洗血跡時親眼看到一個殘喘的男孩被醫生殺死,他的感情發生了巨大的變化,並且他在之後一直堅稱這個死亡的男孩是他的孩子。影片的故事就開始了Saul為了給孩子一個猶太人傳統的喪禮,在集中營裡先是尋找孩子屍體,再尋找Rabbi來禱告,最後埋葬屍體的情節。

鏡頭從主角的視角裡還一併帶出了德軍對平民的殘忍無情,無論老弱婦孺,男人女人都用請你脫衣洗澡喝熱湯的謊言騙進毒氣室,再嘈再鬧直接擊斃。堆積成山的屍體被一具一具的拖進焚化爐,而堆積成山的骨灰又被產進河裡讓人銷毀被殺的證據。也有在朝不保夕,以自己為重中依然保留人性和血性的隊員,儘管會有怕死的,但是都沒有背叛者。我想,從大局的角度來說,唯一的背叛者可以說是主角本身,不顧隊員的死活堅持找Rabbi,大家都在對抗德軍的時候還在挖坑埋屍體。但是從Saul的角度來說,他在做一件他覺得最重要的事,他連自己的生命都不在乎,又怎麼會在意別人的。最後,他和他的隊員都死在德軍的槍下,但是他很快樂很釋然,因為他把男孩的屍體在河中丟失後,在要離開前見到了另一個男孩。雖然我們都知道不是之前那一個,但是這個特殊的時刻,卻讓Saul覺得他看到了死去的男孩變成天使回來見他,即使他拼死救回來的Rabbi根本就是個只想求生的騙子,一句禱告詞都說不好。但他覺得他的期望實現了。諷刺的卻是,那個最後見到的男孩卻是把德軍引來的罪魁禍首。

整部電影沒有背景音樂,完全靠現場的聲音配合故事的發展,喘息聲,談話聲,尖叫聲,狗吠聲,哨聲,砲火聲,槍聲,你甚至能聽出是步槍還是迫擊砲,各種媒介互相碰撞而產生多層次的變化,並且每次都會有多重的聲音出現,在那個時代那個環境下或許也只有死了的人才會徹底的安靜吧。
